Village Boundary Affirmation is the activity of determining the coordinate points of a village’s borders. This can be achieved through the Cartometric Method and/or field surveys, resulting in a formal boundary map accompanied by a list of technical coordinate points.

The Cartometric Method involves tracing or drawing boundary lines on a work map and calculating positions, lines, distances, and total area coverage using base maps and other supporting geospatial information. According to Permendagri Number 45 of 2016, the delineation of village boundaries through this method follows these specific stages:

  1. Preparation of the work map;
  2. Drawing the village boundary lines on the map;
  3. Determining the cartometric coordinate points; and
  4. Presenting the final Village Boundary Determination Map.

The finalized map must be signed by the respective Village Heads and witnessed by the Regency/City Village Boundary Determination and Affirmation (PPB Des) Team.

Technical Importance of Cartometrics

Using the cartometric method is often the first step in resolving boundary disputes before physical pillars are installed. It allows for high-precision area calculations which are essential for Village Statistics, land use planning, and the accurate calculation of Village Fund (Dana Desa) formulas based on territorial size.

Instructional Guidelines for Completion

The following technical instructions should be used when completing the Berita Acara for cartometric tracking:
